Subject-Verb Concord – Introduction

Subject-Verb Concord का अर्थ है subject और verb के बीच number तथा person के अनुसार agreement होना। Singular subject के साथ singular verb और plural subject के साथ plural verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है, लेकिन कुछ special rules भी होते हैं।

Basic Rule

• He plays cricket.
• They play cricket.
• She is happy.
• They are happy.

Rule 1 – Two Subjects Joined by And

दो singular subjects को and से जोड़ा जाए तो सामान्यतः plural verb आता है।

Ram and Shyam are friends.

Rule 2 – Each and Every

Each और Every के साथ singular verb का प्रयोग होता है।

• Each student has a book.
• Every boy is present.

Rule 3 – Either and Neither

Either और Neither के साथ सामान्यतः singular verb का प्रयोग होता है।

• Either boy is ready.
• Neither answer is correct.

Rule 4 – Collective Noun

Collective noun के साथ context के अनुसार singular verb का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।

The team is ready.

Rule 5 – Uncountable Nouns

Uncountable nouns सामान्यतः singular verb लेते हैं।

• Milk is good for health.
• Information is useful.

Rule 6 – Mathematics and News

कुछ words plural दिखते हैं लेकिन singular verb लेते हैं।

• Mathematics is difficult.
• The news is true.
